10th September 2010

Bausch and Lomb has announced that Daniel Wechsler has joined the company as corporate vice-president and global president of the pharmaceuticals business.

Mr Wechsler, a healthcare industry veteran who was most recently employed by Merck Sharpe and Dohme, takes over responsibility of pharmaceuticals from Brent Saunders, Bausch and Lomb's chief executive officer.

The executive was employed by Merck as head of US strategy, commercial model innovation and business development, having been retained by the firm following the takeover of his previous company Schering-Plough.

He has also formerly worked for healthcare companies such as Pfizer and the Upjohn Company.

Mr Saunders, who has acted as interim global president for pharmaceuticals for a number of months, said: "Dan has a strong track record as a senior executive driving high performance in global healthcare companies."

Earlier this week, the company announced that it is seeking applicants for the inaugural research grant presented by the Pediatric Cataract Initiative, which it has founded in partnership with Lions Clubs International Foundation.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800060500-ADNFCR
