Bausch and Lomb launches new membrane scraper and directional laser probe

19th August 2016

Bausch and Lomb has announced the launch of the first and only 27-gauge Diamond Dusted Membrane Scraper and Directional Laser Probe on the market.

The Diamond Dusted Membrane Scraper features a diamond-dusted silicone tip to help atraumatically facilitate the peeling of internal limiting membranes or epiretinal membranes during macular hole or macular pucker surgery.

Meanwhile, its Directional Laser Probe works by passing in and out of the cannula in a straight position, with the straight format reducing the risk of bumping the natural lens when entering the eye and making it possible to work around the posterior pole when applying laser treatment.

Andrew Chang, senior vice-president and US general manager for Bausch and Lomb's surgical business, said: "The introduction of the 27-gauge Diamond Dusted Membrane Scraper and Directional Laser Probe … is the result of our commitment to addressing these challenges, and helping surgeons deliver better patient outcomes."

The two new instruments were showcased alongside several other retina innovations at the recent American Society of Retina Specialists annual meeting in San Francisco.
