Bausch and Lomb receives FDA approval for Crystalens HD

16th July 2009

Bausch & Lomb has received approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the marketing of Crystalens HD, it has announced.

The organisation explained that the surface of the Crystalens HD is shaped to improve the depth of focus, which offers users improved near vision without impacting on their intermediate or distance vision.

Andy Corley, president of Bausch & Lomb Surgical, said that the company is “very proud” of the fact that Crystalens, which can treat both cataracts and presbyopia, is making a difference to the lifestyles of people who have cataracts.

“The approval of Crystalens HD in quarter diopters is Bausch & Lomb’s contribution to the best possible outcomes for our surgeons and patients,” he added.

Dr John Hovanesian, a principal investigator in the FDA study, said that the HD is his “lens of choice” for cataract patients who require presbyopia correction.

Earlier this month, the firm announced that the website for its multi-focal contact lenses won an honour at the 2009 edition of the Interactive Media Awards.
