Bausch and Lomb tests “come up with nothing”
Bausch & Lomb, the eye health company, has said that it is unsure what the cause of an increase in infections linked to its contact lens solution is, according to reports.
Shipments of ReNu with MoistureLoc have been suspended in certain areas of the US following cases of an eye infection caused by a fungus being linked to patients using the ReNu contact lens formula.
The infection ? Fusarium ? can cause scarring of the cornea, leading to blindness and although the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention have not specifically linked the problem with the solution, Forbes said that the body has reportedly noted a high number of those infected had used the product.
“As far as speculation about theories, there’s a lot of them, we’ve run a lot of them to ground and come up with nothing,” Bausch & Lomb chief executive officer Ronald Zarella said, according to the Associated Press.
“Every additional test we’ve run suggests that the formulation is as safe and effective as anything on the market and in particular with regard to Fusarium.”
