Baxter appoints new board members

Baxter has announced the appointment of Dr Uma Chowdhry and Thomas Chen to its board of directors.

Dr Chowdhry most recently served as senior vice-president and chief science and technology officer at EI du Pont de Nemours, while Mr Chen is the ex-senior vice-president for international nutrition at Abbott, prior to their respective retirements in 2010.

They will take up their positions with Baxter in November 2012, thus allowing the medical company to benefit from their many years of experience in the healthcare industry.

Robert Parkinson Jr, Baxter's chairman and chief executive officer, said: "The appointments of Uma and Thomas deepen the strength of the Baxter board of directors, and align with our history of scientific and product innovation, and our international presence as a company."

Last week, the company announced that it has agreed a deal with Onconova to acquire European commercialisation rights for rigosertib, an anti-cancer compound that is currently undergoing phase III testing.
