Baxter outlines sustainability achievements

9th June 2008

Baxter has outlined its recent recognition and achievements in the field of sustainability, including its participation in World Environment Day and the charitable donations of the Baxter International Foundation.

During the first quarter of 2008, the foundation approved 14 grants to broaden access to healthcare across the globe, while the company committed over $1 million (508,000 pounds) to disaster relief in Burma and China.

The company has also donated products to treat victims of violence in Kenya following the disputed elections in that country, with items given to Direct Relief International and AmeriCares.

“Clinics and mobile units were activated within relief camps and door-to-door within local towns to treat people with injuries, infections and other medical conditions stemming from the violence,” the company said.

Products donated from Baxter included a number of intravenous solutions, antibiotics and other drugs.

Earlier this year the Canadian subsidiary of Baxter was recognised for its environmental responsibility sustainability while its Australian subsidiary was given the Sydney Industry Award of Excellence in Business Practices for its water management processes.

In March 2008, Baxter reported that the company and its philanthropic arm had donated almost $53 million at causes addressing both global and local issues.
