Baxter publishes ninth sustainability report

20th June 2008

Baxter has announced the publication of its ninth annual sustainability report which highlights the company’s social, environmental and economic performance for 2007.

The paper includes performance goals that support the sustainability priorities announced by the firm last year, with Baxter claiming that these goals highlight its dedication to the deeper integration of sustainability to encourage improvement and help stakeholders measure any progress made.

Goals included in the report are a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 45 per cent by 2015 indexed to revenue from a 2005 baseline figure and a similar 30 per cent reduction in waste generation.

The firm has also resolved to increase its research and development spending to improve access to healthcare for emerging and developing economies.

Robert L Parkinson, Jr,chairman and chief executive officer of Baxter, said: “As a healthcare company dedicated to saving and sustaining lives, the critical nature of our work naturally aligns with sustainability.”

He added that the establishment of sustainability targets will aid in the monitoring of progress made in each priority area.

In February 2008, Baxter reported that it had won the first annual Corporate Citizen Award for Environmental Sustainability by the League of Women Voters of Illinois.
