Baxter to support new haemophilia care advocacy scheme

14th April 2011

Baxter has announced its support for a new initiative designed to help deliver better access to sustained care for haemophilia patients around the world.

The firm is to provide a grant to the World Federation of Haemophilia (WFH) to launch the five-year Advocacy in Action scheme, which will involve lobbying various global governments to provide improved support for those with bleeding disorders.

It will consist of tailored and themed advocacy support delivered via workshops, coaching programmes and support tools.

The scheme is being launched to coincide with World Haemophilia Day, with Baxter's support coming in addition to its existing commitment to the WFH's ten-year Global Alliance for Progress programme.

Dr Bruce Ewenstein, vice-president for clinical affairs in Baxter's bioscience business, said the company "is committed to supporting the global haemophilia community through efforts that can help to improve and protect patient access to treatment and care".

Last month, the firm revealed that it provided nearly $80 million (49 million pounds) to support charitable initiatives during 2010.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800499575-ADNFCR
