Bayer and Goodbye Malaria ally to tackle disease in southern Africa

Bayer has announced a new partnership with the public health organisation Goodbye Malaria, which aims to tackle the spread of the disease in southern Africa.

The aim of the project will be to jointly eliminate malaria in Mozambique and Swaziland by 2030, with Bayer to contribute its expertise in developing effective vector control solutions such as indoor residual spraying and long-lasting net insecticides.

Goodbye Malaria was established by African entrepreneurs and has been raising funds for the past four years to deploy vector-control interventions to help prevent malaria cases in Mozambique, South Africa and Swaziland.

It works closely with national malaria control programmes in these countries to ensure optimal impact, while also playing a major role in educating people on the best methods of achieving malaria elimination.

Justin McBeath, manager for malaria vector control at Bayer, said: "As Bayer continues to develop new tools to support the goal of ending malaria for good, we can gain crucial insights from implementation challenges associated with IRS through this alliance."
