Bayer Animal Health highlights importance of vet visits

18th January 2011

Bayer Animal Health has moved to raise awareness of the importance of regular veterinary visits among pet owners.

In association with Brakke Consulting, the company has conducted a survey to examine why many people are failing to bring their companion animals in for check-ups as often as in the past.

It was found that many are aiming to reduce costs due to the financial impact of the recession, while others are substituting internet research for veterinary office visits.

Other causes included the resistance to leaving the house seen among animals such as cats, while a misconception that regular medical check-ups for pets are unnecessary was also noted.

Ian Spinks, president and general manager of Bayer Animal Health in the US, said trends of this kind may be preventing domestic animals from "getting the care they need for healthy, long lives".

In November 2010, Bayer Animal Health purchased new chewable application technology from Piedmont Pharmaceuticals for use in the development of medications that are easy to administer to pets.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800349486-ADNFCR
