Bayer announces new research partnership

Bayer Schering Pharma has announced the initiation of a new research partnership in the field of pre-clinical cancer research.

It will cooperate with the National University of Singapore (NUS) on three joint projects in oncology.

The company said it would invest up to ten million euros (7.9 million pounds) in research and development activities over the next five to eight years in Singapore.

It added it would spend this money in partnerships with universities, research institutes, hospitals and companies based in the country.

Bayer Schering Pharma said the goal of its joint projects with the NUS is to profile drugs in Asian populations, investigating tumour models with high relevance for the clinical situation and identifying of novel biomarkers.

Professor Andreas Busch, head of global drug discovery and member of the board of the company, said: “We are looking forward to work together with the experts at NUS and to make use of Singapore’s excellent translational research capabilities and world class research infrastructure to develop and further advance new anti-cancer therapies.”

He added this investment underlines its commitment to the development of novel medication to treat cancer.

Earlier this week, Bayer Innovation announced a collaboration agreement with Kentucky Bioprocessing to develop a new plant for the production of biopharmaceuticals.
