Bayer campaign to promote benefits of microchipping vets

16th May 2017

Bayer is urging vets to do all they can to promote the benefits of microchipping animals ahead of National Microchipping Month, which runs throughout June.

The company, which produces the Tracer Advance Slim microchip range, is launching a campaign to drive pet owners into vet practices to discuss the benefits of microchipping, while also educating them on the importance of keeping details stored on their pet's microchip database up to date.

To support this initiative, the firm has developed a suite of marketing and support materials for vets to display in their practices throughout June.

Compulsory microchipping in dogs was introduced by the British government a year ago, with 95 percent of UK dogs now microchipped. However, new research shows that 91 percent British vets believe microchipping should also be made compulsory for cats.

Indeed, many cat owners report being anxious when letting their animal ventures outside, with 68 percent of owners believing it to be unsafe.

Hannah Watts, product manager at Bayer, said: "Until microchipping becomes compulsory in cats, vets will need to play a crucial role in helping increase the number of UK cats that are microchipped."
