Bayer Diabetes Care publishes blood glucose self-monitoring report

28th June 2010

Bayer Diabetes Care has published a new report which highlights the issues which can affect self-monitoring of blood glucose among (SMBG) type 1 and 2 diabetes sufferers.

According to research presented at the American Diabetes Association 70th Scientific Sessions, a majority of adults suffering from the conditions believe they know their own blood sugar levels without the need for testing.

It is one of a number of information, motivation and behavioural skills (IMB)-based factors which may be limiting the effectiveness of SMBG, with many patients feeling self-conscious about their testing regimes or unaware of the correct procedures.

Bayer Diabetes Care states that these findings show the value of conducting IMB skills analysis of SMBG issues.

Dr David Simmons, chief medical officer for Bayer Diabetes Care, added that the study “has helped us identify areas of patient education, professional education and development to improve products and services that Bayer can provide to customers”.

Earlier this month, Bayer Diabetes Care was presented with a silver Medical Design Excellence Award for the innovative construction of its Contour USB blood glucose monitor system.
