Bayer HealthCare completes Steigerwald takeover

4th July 2013

Bayer HealthCare has announced the completion of its acquisition of Steigerwald Arzneimittelwerk GmbH, a pharmacy supplier based in Germany.

The newly-acquired business specialises in pharmacy-only herbal medicines and offers a product portfolio that includes Iberogast, a treatment for functional gastrointestinal disorders, as well as the depression therapy Laif.

Christian Sarto, previously responsible for mergers and acquisitions at Bayer HealthCare, has been named as the managing director of Steigerwald, with all of the firm's approximately 180 current employees set to be retained by Bayer.

Steigerwald's Darmstadt base and sales organisation will also maintain their existing structures following the takeover.

Mr Sarto said: "We plan to further strengthen Steigerwald's competence in the increasingly important phytopharmaceuticals segment – both in Germany and internationally – and step up research in this field."

This comes after the firm also recently acquired Conceptus, a specialist in the field of birth control solutions, including the non-surgical permanent contraceptive offering Essure.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801608242-ADNFCR
