Bayer passes Reach target

30th November 2010

Bayer has completed registration of a range of chemicals as part of the European Union's Reach Regulation.

Registration was required in order for production and marketing of such products to continue.

The scheme is designed to promote the effective management of chemicals in order to boost personal and environmental health.

Reach (Regulation on the Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals) covers numerous products and the project is ongoing. The first stage, which Bayer has now completed, required the registration of chemicals produced in volumes of 1,000 metric tonnes or more.

The next phase, due to be completed by June 1st 2013, will cover chemicals of particular importance to Bayer Healthcare, the company notes. Here, chemicals produced in volumes of between 100 and 1,000 metric tonnes per annum must be registered.

After this, a deadline of June 1st 2018 has been set for the registration of all smaller-volume chemicals.

Bayer notes that complying with Reach guidelines will continue to pose a challenge for the company in the coming years.

Earlier this month the firm said it intends to focus on further growth and innovation.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800264061-ADNFCR
