Bayer Schering Pharma sustainability highlighted in report

3rd June 2010

Bayer Schering Pharma’s success in implementing sustainable business measures has been highlighted in a new report by parent group Bayer.

The group has published its annual Sustainable Development Report for 2009, a year which saw Bayer achieve an A plus grade according to guidelines from the Global Reporting Initiative.

Its healthcare sector activities played a key role in the firm’s strong performance in the last year, having worked towards combating a number of neglected diseases, including tuberculosis and Chagas.

In addition, the company highlighted its work with organisations such as the United States Agency for International Development to deliver safe means of contraception to women in developing nations.

Dr Wolfgang Plischke, the member of the Bayer AG board of management responsible for innovation, technology and environment, said: “Innovation is the driving force in our sustainability-focused corporate strategy.”

Last month, Bayer Schering Pharma announced plans to open a new innovation centre in California, a move which is intended to expand its research capabilities in fields such as cardiology and oncology.
