Bayer Schering Pharma to open new research centre

18th May 2010

Bayer Schering Pharma is to augment its global research capacities with the opening of a new innovation centre in California.

The pharmaceutical company’s planned US Innovation Centre will be used as a base for Bayer scientists developing new treatment options in fields such as haematology, cardiology, oncology and women’s healthcare.

In addition, Bayer Schering Pharma will also use the facility to work with academic research institutions and life science firms in order to further support product development.

The firm expressed confidence that the new centre will bolster its global research network and help to develop its pipeline of specialty pharmaceutical products.

Professor Andreas Busch, head of global drug discovery for Bayer Schering Pharma, said it would do so via “a successful combination of internal excellence with highly partnered approaches in research and development and commercialisation”.

Earlier this month, the company commenced a new phase III clinical trial which will evaluate the effectiveness of regorafenib among nearly 700 metastatic colorectal cancer patients.
