Bayer to expand animal health production site in Kiel
Bayer has announced an investment of 92 million euros (81.04 million pounds) to expand its key animal health production site in Kiel.
This money will be spent between now and 2021, with the goal of particularly strengthening the company's growing companion animal segment. Bayer uses the Kiel site to produce some of its most important products for the global market.
Rising demand for collars for the prevention of fleas and ticks has necessitated further investments into new production facilities, as well as sophisticated filling and packaging lines, while the production of pipettes offering liquid parasite protection for pets is also a priority.
Additionally, the revamped Kiel site will supply other liquid products and an optimised production line of pills for companion and farm animals.
Dr Dirk Ehle, head of the Bayer's animal health unit, said: "As a strategic production site for pipettes and flea and tick collars, Kiel substantially contributes to the success of our business unit. We expect significant growth in future, in particular for our collars."
