BCF Technology assists in rhino study in South Africa
BCF Technology has highlighted the contribution it has recently made to a rhino research project in South Africa.
This opportunity arose after a team from the University of Pretoria in South Africa contacted the company about assisting with a project looking at cataracts and posterior segment pathology in white rhinos in Kruger National Park.
BCF agreed to provide a SonoSite M-Turbo ultrasound machine and probe free of charge to the vets for the duration of the study, which was carried out in July.
Vets conducted ocular ultrasonography to aid the diagnosis of congenital and developmental abnormalities of the vitreous, as well as retinal detachments and any image lens changes. Measurements were performed on a large number of rhinos, allowing the researchers to determine a reference range to be used in future clinical examinations.
Tim Perks of BCF said: "We want to support vets in our community for the care of all animals; from a mouse to and elephant, BCF has the right equipment to provide the best diagnostic imaging possible."
