BD announces takeover of polymer dye manufacturer Sirigen
BD is expanding its life science research reagent platform through the acquisition of Sirigen for an undisclosed fee.
The acquired business is a specialist developer of unique polymer dyes used in flow cytometry and other technologies, offering products based on Nobel Prize-winning research in conductive plastics.
Sirigen's polymer advances could potentially lead to the development of novel dyes that are four to ten times brighter than conventional options, which would represent a major breakthrough in this area of research.
BD believes that Sirigen's technology offerings complement its own instrument platforms and reagent portfolio in a way that suggests encouraging potential for further development.
Alberto Mas, president of BD Biosciences, said the takeover "will enable us to develop a continuous cadence of novel, unique dyes and antibody specificity releases over the next two years, significantly expanding our life science research reagent portfolio with high-impact products".
This comes after the company purchased Safety Syringes, a manufacturer of passive needle shields and guards for prefilled syringes, last month.
