BD issues flu preparedness statement

BD has issued a statement regarding its preparedness for the swine flu pandemic, which has claimed the lives of more than 800 people around the world since it began.

It said that during a health emergency, the firm’s responsibilities take on a "new emphasis" for both its own employees and members of the public.

The company explained that the health and safety of its staff requires "constant vigilance" both for their own wellbeing and to ensure that "critical medical products" continue to be produced in order to meet global demand.

A number have steps have been taken in response to the "rapid spread" of H1N1, including the initiation of full global syringe and needle production capacity for flu-related products.

BD has also reviewed its entire supply chain to prepare for the implementation of plans that could be required in order to facilitate the ongoing production of its commodities.

The firm concluded: "BD continues to monitor the flu situation daily and we will update information regarding our response as appropriate."
