BD launches new MRSA detection assay in Europe

9th September 2013

BD has announced the European launch of a new test for Staphylococcus aureus and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) from nasal swabs in surgical patients at risk for colonisation.

The CE-marked BD Max StaphSR assay with eXTended Detection Technology is designed for use on the fully-automated BD Max System and is the only product of its kind which detects the MREJ target found only in MRSA and drug-resistance genes.

It is able to provide results in about two hours – compared to two days with culture methods – and can be performed at the same time as numerous other tests, thanks to the capabilities of the fully-automated BD Max system.

Tom Polen, president of diagnostic systems at BD Diagnostics, said: "The rapidly expanding menu on the fully-automated BD Max System provides hospital laboratories a flexible, efficient and cost-effective solution for accurate molecular testing."

Earlier this year, the company launched a Bordetella pertussis/parapertussis real-time polymerase chain reaction kit from Diagenode for the BD Max system.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801635189-ADNFCR
