BD makes progress in second quarter of 2010-11 fiscal year

28th April 2011

BD has posted second quarter figures for its 2010-11 year that illustrate the company's progress towards meeting year-on-year growth targets.

The firm's quarterly revenues increased by 6.8 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2010, reaching a total of $1.92 billion (1.15 billion pounds), with growth observed in its medical, diagnostics and bioscience business units.

During the quarter, the company was able to complete its acquisition of Accuri Cytometers, a US-based creator and manufacturer of personal flow cytometers for life science research.

It also reported that it is seeing a resumption of normal operations and order volumes in Japan following the impact of the March 11th 2011 earthquake, which caused damage to its manufacturing plant in Fukushima.

In the immediate aftermath of the disaster, the company provided a contribution of $325,000 to relief efforts, as well as a matching gift programme for donations made by its associates worldwide.

Edward Ludwig, chairman and chief executive officer of BD, said: "We are pleased with our solid results this quarter, which were in line with our expectations."ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800514965-ADNFCR
