16th March 2011

BD has outlined a range of measures it will be undertaking in order to support relief efforts following the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

The medical technology manufacturer will provide $325,000 (201,700 pounds) via various disaster relief and humanitarian aid organisations, including Unicef, AmeriCares, the American Red Cross and Direct Relief International.

It will also be working with these bodies to assess the need for healthcare products in the wake of the natural disaster on March 11th 2011, with donations to be made once evaluations are complete.

Other schemes that BD will be implementing include a matching gift programme for donations made by its associates worldwide to eligible not-for-profit organisations, up to a total of $50,000.

Edward Ludwig, the company's chairman and chief executive officer, said: "On behalf of BD's 29,000 associates around the world, I extend our deepest sympathies to the people of Japan and all affected by this tragedy."

The firm has also confirmed that its office in Tokyo was undamaged by the seismic activity and that all of its Japanese employees are safe.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800464917-ADNFCR
