BD receives “significant order” for swine flu vaccination products

14th September 2009

BD has announced that it has received a “significant order” of products relating to the delivery of swine flu vaccines.

The Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) has requested syringes, needles, alcohol swabs and sharps collectors to assist with its contribution to swine flu vaccination efforts this autumn.

Under the contract, BARDA will purchase around $52 million (31.3 million pounds) of products from BD until March 2010.

Edward Ludwig, chairman and chief executive officer of BD, said that the firm is pleased to fulfil the order and contribute to tackling the H1N1 virus.

“Due to our advance planning, we will be able to meet this large federal demand, while at the same time ensuring that we are able to [provide] regular supplies for seasonal flu vaccination campaigns,” he added.

BD was founded in 1897 and employs around 28,000 individuals in 50 countries worldwide.

It provides equipment to researchers, laboratories, healthcare institutions and the pharmaceutical sector.
