BD sells off business units to RoundTable Healthcare Partners

9th June 2010

BD has agreed a deal to sell off a number of its medical device business units to RoundTable Healthcare Partners for an undisclosed sum.

The firm will divest its ophthalmic systems division to RoundTable, in addition to its Medical Surgical Systems unit’s surgical blades, critical care and extended dwell catheter product lines.

This transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of BD’s 2010 fiscal year and will result in a gain in the company’s financial result for the three-month period.

Edward Ludwig, chairman and chief executive officer at BD, explained that the sales will allow the company to focus its resources and management attention on the parenteral medication delivery field.

He added: “We are pleased that we found in RoundTable a buyer committed to the success of these sound businesses, which provide value to customers.”

According to BD’s most recent financial report, released in April, the firm saw a year-on-year revenue growth of seven per cent in the first quarter of 2010, with diabetes care and pharmaceutical systems products among its strongest sellers.
