BD unit launches new microsurgical instruments
BD division Ophthalmic Systems has expanded its range of microsurgical instruments and customised trays onto the scientific equipment market, it has emerged.
Overall, 30 new items have been added to the BD Visitec stainless steel single-use instruments range, giving healthcare facilities and surgeons the opportunity to increase their efficiency by eradicating the need for costly and time-consuming re-sterilisation after the use of each product.
Doug Lawrence, vice-president and general manager of Ophthalmic Systems, said that the firm is pleased to be offering more choices that help to "meet the challenges of infection transmission prevention".
He added that the launch "reflects BD’s continued commitment to developing safety-engineered, single-use medical devices designed to protect patients and healthcare workers against the threat of cross-contamination and bloodborne diseases."
This week, BD revealed that the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority has placed an order worth $52 million (31.3 million pounds) for syringes, needles, alcohol swabs and sharps collectors to assist it with administering swine flu vaccinations.
