BD updates sustainability goals for 2020

BD has introduced an updated sustainability strategy and goals for 2020 as part of its 2014 Sustainability Report.

These new goals reflect a broader and more integrated agenda than in past years, recognising four strategic areas – innovation, access, efficiency and empowerment – where BD will focus its efforts.

In 2015, the firm exceeded four of its five targets and is making significant progress toward achieving its energy reduction goals.

As a result, BD has delivered more than $25 million (16.04 million pounds) in cost savings through its significant improvement in terms of environmental performance over the last five years.

Vincent Forlenza, BD's chairman, chief executive officer and president, said: "Our sustainability strategy has evolved to address the wide range of challenges in our industry, while helping to make a difference on relevant issues that affect society and the planet."

This comes after the firm outlined its commitment to tackling the global problem of antibiotic resistance during a White House Forum last month.
