BDIA campaign to combat use of substandard dental devices
The British Dental Industry Association has launched a new campaign to tackle the use of fake or substandard instruments and devices among UK dental practitioners.
Dubbed the Counterfeit and substandard Instruments and Devices Initiative (CsIDI), the campaign aims to promote awareness of the dangers of using poor quality, fake or illegal dental technology.
It will also provide a quick and simple method of reporting the sale of such products to relevant bodies, while promoting purchasing only from reputable manufacturers and suppliers, such as BDIA member companies.
The CsIDI project comes at a time when the growth of internet sales channels and the globalisation of dental manufacturing has made it easier than ever for sellers of substandard devices to distribute their wares.
Tony Reed, the BDIA's executive director, said: "By purchasing only from reputable suppliers, the end user can be assured of a high-quality product that meets all the necessary requirements and that will not endanger the user or the patient."
Formerly known as the British Dental Trade Association, the BDIA represents the interests of more than 125 member companies across the country.
