Beiersdorf highlights benefits of collaborative AgeNet research

6th June 2013

Beiersdorf has expressed confidence that its work in conjunction with the collaborative scientific network AgeNet will yield new insights into innovative skincare products.

The company has been part of the German government-backed initiative since 2011, with other partners including the German Cancer Research Center, the University of Heidelberg and the Technical University of Dresden.

Under the auspices of the programme, Beiersdorf scientists have been assessing the influences of environmental factors that speed up the ageing of skin cells, such as ultraviolet light and air pollution.

They have found that epigenetic changes brought about by external forces can lead to deteriorations in the appearance of the skin, meaning that modulating this process could reverse the effect.

Dr Marc Winnefeld, head of the special and aged skin lab at Beiersdorf, said: "After the conclusion of this research, combined with the research results of other workgroups at Beiersdorf, we will have enough material to derive completely new and highly effective approaches to skincare."

Last month, the firm reported its financial results for the first quarter of 2013, during which it achieved an organic year-on-year sales improvement of 5.4 percent.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801595891-ADNFCR
