Bio-Rad launches syphilis testing kit

29th August 2007

Bio-Rad Laboratories has announced the launch of a test for syphilis for use on its BioPlex 2200 diagnostic system.

The BioPlex 2200 Syphilis IgG kit detects three antibodies of the most clinically relevant bacteria that cause syphilis using recombinant proteins in a multiplex format. The kit can be used as a diagnostic confirmatory test or a clinical screen for past or present infection.

Making use of multiplexing technology to analyse numerous disease markers from a single patient sample, the 2200 system is the first and only fully-automated random access testing system that provides facilities with the means to process many individual tests.

John Goetz, Bio-Rad vice-president, commented: "The release of the Syphilis IgG kit is another example of Bio-Rad’s continued commitment to providing valuable tools that enable laboratories to improve testing methods, maximise efficiencies and lower costs."

Bio-Rad recently entered into a distribution agreement with Sysmex America to market complimentary products in the field of diabetes testing.
