4th May 2011

Biohit has experienced a year-on-year sales growth of approximately ten percent in the first quarter of 2011.

The science company generated net sales of 10.4 million euros (9.36 million pounds) during the period, while its operating result of 600,000 euros was highlighted as developing in line with internal guidance.

Encouraging developments were noted in its mechanical pipette and liquid handling product sales, with the European, Chinese and Russian markets underlined as being particularly robust.

Jussi Heinio, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Biohit, stated that the firm is also making progress towards improving profitability, with fixed costs falling by 14 percent compared to Q1 2010 thanks to its expense reduction initiatives.

"We will continue improving the efficiency of our operations during the year, ensuring a profitable growth in the future as well," he said.

Last month, the company announced that Professor Osmo Suovaniemi, the founder and former CEO of Biohit, has been elected as the chairman of its board of directors.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800518969-ADNFCR
