BioMerieux launches new vitamin D assay
BioMerieux has announced the launch of Vidas 25 OH Vitamin D Total, a CE Mark-approved test for the determination of vitamin D status.
Manufactured at the company's Marcy l'Etoile site in France, the test functions with the Vidas, mini Vidas and Vidas 3 automated immunoassay platforms and is used for the measurement of total vitamin D levels in human serum and plasma.
It uses an immunoenzymatic method to measure vitamin D2 and vitamin D3 levels, providing extremely precise and rapid results within 40 minutes, and upholds the Vidas brand's reputation for quality and reliability.
A lack of vitamin D can cause rickets in children and secondary hyperparathyroidism and osteoporosis in adults.
Francois Lacoste, corporate vice-president of the immunoassay unit at BioMerieux, said: "Vitamin D deficiency can lead to a number of diseases in patients. For clinical laboratories, this test represents a useful new development to determine vitamin D levels with precision."
The company was granted European CE Mark approval for the advanced Vidas 3 automated immunoassay system earlier this year.
