BioMerieux reports strong year-on-year sales growth in first half of 2017

BioMerieux has reported strong year-on-year growth for the first half of the 2017 business year.

The company's sales came to 1.13 billion euros (1.04 billion pounds) for the first six months of the year, which represented an increase of 11.3 percent at constant exchange rates and scope of consolidation.

A sharp 18 percent increase in net income to 101 million euros was also recorded, with the firm's BioFire FilmArray highlighted as a major contributor to this recent strong momentum.

BioMerieux's installed base as of June 30th 2017 stood at approximately 89,400 instruments, marking an increase of 2,500 instruments over the six-month period. Of this total, 4,800 units were FilmArray devices.

As such, the company now expects organic growth in sales of between nine and ten percent for the full year.

Alexandre Merieux, chief executive officer of BioMerieux, said: "In light of this dynamic performance, as well as the more-favourable-than-expected currency environment, we are able to revise our full-year financial targets upward while pursuing our innovation and development efforts for the long term."
