Biotest sees improved sales in 2009

22nd February 2010

Biotest has published preliminary financial results for the 2009 fiscal year, during which the company saw its sales increase compared to the previous year.

The healthcare-oriented science firm made a total of 440.2 million euros (387.4 million pounds) in sales during the last year, which represents a 14.1 per cent increase on its 2008 takings.

It attributed this rise to the improved performance of a number of its key product sectors, including plasma protein and microbiological monitoring, while its discontinued medical diagnostics unit also made a contribution.

The firm’s earnings before interest and tax also increased as a result of this, with the figure estimated in the range of 61 million euros, compared to 59 million euros in 2008.

Biotest will confirm the final results when it publishes its annual report next month.

The company agreed the deal to sell its medical diagnostics business to Bio-Rad Dreieich at the end of last year, with Biotest now aiming to refocus its business on pharmaceutical and biotherapeutic drugs in immunology and haematology.
