Biotronik highlights sales success of ProMRI-equipped pacemakers
Biotronik has underlined the strong demand it has seen for its magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-compatible pacemaker devices over the last few months.
Since the launch of the ProMRI Eluna pacemaker system in March 2015, 60 percent of pacing devices sold by the company have been equipped with ProMRI technology, meaning they are approved for use during MRI scans.
The introduction of these devices has proven a significant advance, since the majority of pacemaker patients are over the age of 65 and are thus most are likely to have a clinical need for an MRI scan after their device is implanted.
ProMRI technology allows patients to undergo full-body MRI scans with both single-chamber and dual-chamber pacemakers, when implanted with specially designed Biotronik pacing leads.
Paul Woodstock, executive vice-president of sales and marketing at Biotronik, said: "Most physicians understand the need and clinical benefits of the technology. Offering the most current and comprehensive products is releasing pent-up demand in the marketplace."
