Biotronik receives CE Mark for Ilivia ICDs and CRT-Ds
Biotronik has announced that its new Ilivia implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) and cardiac resynchronisation therapy defibrillators (CRT-Ds) have received European CE Mark approval.
These devices come with the company's ProMRI and MRI AutoDetect technology, making them the first ICDs and cardiac resynchronisation devices capable of automatically adapting to an MRI environment.
Currently, when a cardiac device patient undergoes an MRI scan, the device must be programmed into a special mode that temporarily reduces the device's functionality until the MRI scan is completed.
MRI AutoDetect circumvents this by allowing cardiologists to activate a special window, lasting up to 14 days, in which all device functionality is maintained until the patient is undergoing the scan itself.
The device will then switch into MRI mode automatically, with full device functionality restored automatically and without the need for the cardiologist's intervention once the process is complete.
Manuel Ortega, senior vice-president at Biotronik, said: "MRI AutoDetect is the next step in ensuring that patients get the full benefit of both their implanted devices and diagnostic imaging."
