Biotronik receives CE Mark for new Iforia defibrillator device
Biotronik has receive European CE Mark approval for its most advanced cardioverter-defibrillator/cardiac resynchronisation therapy defibrillator (ICD/CRT-D) device to date.
Iforia is the first product of its kind to be compatible with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), incorporating one of the world's smallest ICDs and the industry-standard DF4 connector system to simplify and shorten the implantation procedure.
It has been designed to provide unparalleled longevity, with the CRT-D offering more than seven
years' performance and the single chamber ICD lasting in excess of 11 years, thus ensuring a low replacement rate.
Christoph Bohmer, international president of Biotronik, said: "Safety and reliability are the foundation of all of our new technologies and innovations. Iforia offers enhanced diagnostic possibilities with the highest reliability and unsurpassed longevity."
In the past 15 months, the company has received market approval for two series of MRI-compatible ICDs and CRT-Ds.
For example, the firm's Ilesto 7 ICD/CRT-D range was granted CE Mark approval in February 2013.
