Biotronik study shows benefits of Home Monitoring for ICD patients

31st August 2016

Biotronik has announced new clinical data showing the widespread benefits its Home Monitoring system can provide for implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) patients.

During a presentation at this year's European Society of Cardiology Congress, results from the TRUECOIN meta-study were highlighted, showing that Biotronik Home Monitoring was associated with a 38 percent reduced risk for all-cause mortality after one year in all ICD patients.

These results were observed in comparison with conventional office follow-up alone, with a 36 percent reduction in the combined risk of all-cause mortality or hospitalisation for worsening heart failure also observed.

Previously, the IN-TIME study showed a more than 50 percent risk reduction for all-cause mortality in heart failure patients, but this meta-analysis – which incorporated the IN-TIME findings – was able to extend that proven benefit to a full range of ICD patients.

Manuel Ortega, senior vice-president at Biotronik, said: "The meta-analysis clearly shows that it does matter which remote monitoring system is used. The daily transmissions, along with multi-parameter analysis and an established clinical workflow, provide physicians with the most robust set of information possible."
