BMI Healthcare facility launches new chronic pain treatment
BMI Healthcare has announced that its Fitzroy Square Hospital has launched an innovative non-surgical treatment for chronic back and neck pain that could benefit a wide variety of patients.
Originally developed in the US, the new intervertebral differential dynamics (IDD) therapy approach involves the application of carefully controlled forces that gently pull apart targeted spinal segments.
This relieves the pressure on the affected spinal disc and any pinched nerves while promoting the movement and absorption of water, oxygen and nutrient-rich fluids.
By relying on the body's natural healing mechanism to progressively improve joint mobility and movement, the therapy brings significant levels of relief for sufferers of back pain, the UK's second-most common cause of long-term sickness.
BMI Fitzroy Square Hospital's consultant orthopaedic and spinal surgeon Martin Knight said this new therapy represents "an effective non-invasive option for a number of chronic patients … [whose] pain had not improved with standard manual treatments but they did not want or were not suitable for surgery".
The site is located in the middle of London and is BMI Healthcare's leading specialist facility for pain management of all descriptions.
