Boehringer Ingelheim highlights importance of good communication on diabetes
Boehringer Ingelheim has published the findings of a new study showing the importance of better communication between type 2 diabetes patients and their physicians.
Results from the IntroDia Survey, which included responses from 4,235 people across 26 countries, showed a link between the quality of patient-physician communication and future patient self-care and wellbeing standards.
Specifically, the report highlighted the crucial nature of good communication at the moment when additional oral type 2 diabetes medication is prescribed, with encouraging and collaborative conversations shown to have a positive impact.
It was also shown that encouraging statements were recalled by up to 85 percent of patients, whereas discouraging statements were remembered by only 53 percent of patients.
Dr Matthew Capehorn, GP and member of the IntroDia Advisory Panel, said: "The introduction of additional oral medication for type 2 diabetes management can be a challenging moment for patients. An encouraging conversation with a physician can make a real difference to subsequent self-management."
Diabetes is a key study area for Boehringer Ingelheim, which recently received European approval for Synjardy, its latest type 2 diabetes therapy.
