Boehringer Ingelheim launches new portal to facilitate access to research assets
Boehringer Ingelheim has announced the launch of opnMe.com, a new platform offering free and open access to many of its medical assets for research purposes.
Through this online portal, scientists around the world will be able to gain access to selected preclinical molecules for non-clinical investigation, including compounds focused on some of the most relevant targets in biomedical research.
Most of these molecules can offered without entering into intellectual property discussions via a simple shopping cart system, with selected assets offering a crowdsourcing option to give researchers the opportunity to initiate joint research projects with Boehringer Ingelheim.
It is hoped that this will generate new possibilities for further independent and collaborative discovery programmes, as well as aiding the identification of novel treatment approaches for patients.
Dr Clive Wood, senior corporate vice-president for discovery research at Boehringer Ingelheim, said: "By sharing these compounds with scientists around the world, we will advance scientific research and expect to spark discoveries that will lead to safe and effective new medicines for patients."
