Boehringer Ingelheim marks 125th anniversary

Boehringer Ingelheim has outlined its commitment to future growth after marking the 125th anniversary of the foundation of the company.

Employees of the pharmaceuticals firm will hold family celebrations with relatives to commemorate Albert Boehringer's establishment of the company in the town of Ingelheim in 1885.

Professor Andreas Barner, chairman of the board of managing directors, hailed the firm's progress over its history while highlighting its moves towards further growth via the creation of innovative medicines.

He pointed to the success of recent developments such as Pradaxa, as well as the investment of 21 percent of Boehringer Ingelheim's net sales from its prescription medicines division directly in research.

"We are entering new territory with confidence and the knowledge, in keeping with the company's guiding principles, to serve humankind by researching, developing, producing and marketing new medicines," explained Professor Barner.

Earlier this month, Boehringer Ingelheim published its report for the second quarter of 2010, during which the firm was able to make progress on the development of Pradaxa and Twynsta, as well as expanding its workforce.
