Boehringer Ingelheim named top employer

15th October 2007

Boehringer Ingelheim has beaten off a number of competitors to be named as the top employer in the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industry according to a recently-published magazine list.

The company received the accolade in Science following its annual questionnaire of employees in the field, with firms rated on a bases of the respect afforded to staff, the correlation of company and employee work-culture values and other factors.

Boehringer Ingelheim was ranked eighth in the 2005 listings, rising to second place last year before topping the list for 2007.

Mikael Dolsten, executive vice-president of pharma research at Boehringer Ingelheim, said: “In a strong science-driven industry, we direct our projects in a climate balancing continuity and change in which we constantly challenge ourselves by seeking a creative dialogue with internal and external experts.”

He added that the success of the firm was not an overnight phenomenon, but had instead resulted from many years of commitment to research and innovation as the best means of developing enhanced and novel medication for patients.

In March 2007, Boehringer Ingelheim joined Eli Lilly, Novartis and AstraZeneca to become a founding sponsor of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Centre for Biomedical Innovation.
