Boehringer Ingelheim opens submissions for European PRRS Research Award

27th February 2018

Boehringer Ingelheim has announced that it will once again be accepting admissions for its fifth annual European PRRS Research Award.

This initiative is designed to help applied researchers to support improved control for porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS), a swine disease that is known to be both devastating and costly to manage.

Submissions for the award are open until July 1st 2018, with three grants of EUR 25,000 (GBP 22,060) available to fund research proposals that will generate new and practical information to better understand PRRS.

These projects will help to push forward new practical application strategies to control PRRS and enhance the interaction among swine researchers and veterinarians, while also improving communication in the industry on disease control strategies.

Each proposal will be reviewed by an independent board including recognised swine industry professionals, with winners to be picked based on factors such as significance, potential impact, originality and innovation. The winning projects will be confirmed in September 2018.

The company said: "The PRRS virus infects pigs around the globe causing respiratory tract illness in growing pigs and reproductive failure in breeding stock; the company strives to find solutions for an improved PRRS control."
