Boehringer Ingelheim sponsors stroke initiative

28th May 2009

Boehringer Ingelheim is proud to support an initiative that will benefit patients, it has stated.

The company will be the founding sponsor of the World Stroke Academy, which is a training initiative for medical professionals in this field.

Experts from around the world will join together to educate health workers and doctors about how to prevent and manage the condition, which kills around 5.7 million people every year.

Professor Bo Norrving is the president of the World Stroke Organization ? the body developing the programme ? and explained the scheme will provide a platform to find ways of dealing with the mental and physical side effects of the problem.

Corporate senior vice-president of medicine at Boehringer Ingelheim Dr Manfred Health asserted the company is committed to patient care.

“We hope the World Stroke Academy will contribute to training a new generation of specialists who can help provide that care,” he said.

Last month, the company released results from investigations that showed Mirapexin/Sifrol (pramipexole) could relieve symptoms of depression in patients with Parkinson’s disease.
