Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica launches Metacam as oral suspension

8th July 2010

Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica has launched a new indication of its multipurpose medication Metacam, allowing it to be administered as an oral suspension for pigs.

The product has been cleared for launch in Europe in this new specification after being ratified by the European Medicines Agency, following on from a recommendation from the Committee for Medicinal Products for Veterinary Use.

This new formulation of Metacam is designed to reduce symptoms of inflammation among pigs in a stress-free manner, helping to improve the animals’ productivity and wellbeing.

Dr Joachim Hasenmaier, head of corporate animal health at Boehringer Ingelheim, said: “Metacam 15 mg/ml oral suspension is all about choices which we try to offer to the swine producer, enabling him to better adjust the administration of a needed treatment to specific conditions.”

Last month, Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica attended the 2010 World Pork Expo, where it highlighted some of the progress made in treating porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome in recent years.
