Boots customer audit shows demand for pharmacy travel health services
Boots UK has highlighted the findings of a new audit that demonstrates the growing demand for vaccination and travel health services provided by community pharmacies.
Data generated by the Boots Travel Vaccinations and Health Advice service has indicated that pharmacies may be ideally placed to step up if travel vaccinations are no longer funded by the NHS in future.
According to the analysis, a high proportion of travellers visiting community pharmacies are already choosing to pay for vaccines that they could receive for free on the NHS, due to the added convenience and longer opening hours that pharmacies provide.
Additionally, it was shown that 42 percent of travellers accessing the community pharmacy service were last-minute travellers calling in with 14 days or less before their departure. This further underlines the way in which these services can fit in with consumer lifestyles, particularly among younger customers.
Marc Donovan, chief pharmacist at Boots UK, said: "Many of our customers value the convenience of community pharmacy as a one-stop shop for their travel health advice – so much so that they are more willing to pay than have to wait for an appointment at their local GP surgery."
