Boots to introduce nurse-led clinics in July
Boots has revealed plans to introduce nurse-led health clinics in a number of its UK stores as part of a pilot scheme commencing this July.
The clinics will be introduced in Milton Keynes and Nottingham and will offer services such as health checks and advice on both an appointment and walk-in basis, reports Chemist and Druggist.
This means that Boots now has GPs and NHS providers providing services in 17 of its stores, with further plans to expand this offering still forthcoming.
Boots director of healthcare public affairs Tricia Kennerley said the move has received the backing of staff and patients and is designed to help pharmacies with time pressures, as well as expanding their range of services.
She added: “We want to continue to develop our pharmacists’ skills in delivering services and become much more service providers as opposed to just dispensing prescriptions.”
Last month, Boots’ parent group Alliance Boots reported its financial results for the year ending March 31st 2010, highlighting a year-on-year revenue increase to a total of 22.5 billion pounds.
