Boots to introduce telemedicine units in new pilot scheme

24th August 2010

Boots is to introduce telemedicine machines in two of its flagship stores in a new two-month pilot scheme.

A spokesman for the pharmacy company told Chemist and Druggist that it is involved in an initiative to implement Stirling Products' TeleMedCare units into its stores, with the potential possibility of a wider UK rollout if it proves successful.

The units allow for the monitoring of patients' vital signs and health status, which means that consultations with health teams can be conducted remotely via video conferencing and instant messaging.

This UK trial represents the first time TelMedCare machines have been implemented in pharmacies, having previously been used in homes and care facilities.

Peter Boonen, managing director of Stirling Products, said: "The feedback so far from the trial is that there is a great level of acceptance and appreciation for the convenience of mini medical clinics within pharmacies."

Last month, Boots brand operator Alliance Healthcare opened a new service centre in Exeter, which will distribute products to more than 1,000 pharmacists and hospitals in south-west England.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800037720-ADNFCR
